Prince died of an opioid overdose, a law enforcement source confirmed to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity (credible enough for the AP to announce it, anyway). There was plenty of specualation that Percocet was detected in his body, but at the time investigators did not know whether it played a role in his death.
